Sally DeJesus

Sally DeJesus is a writer, artist and optimist. Since 2005 she has been facilitating poetry and art programs for children and women in Concourse House, a homeless shelter in the Bronx, NY, a public high school library, and at a Crisis Respite Center (Parachute House.) She was a primary art school teacher at Jacob's Place (an extension of the shelter) and founded Social Action for Kids Camp. She ran art and book study co-ops for children and teens in her home in the Bronx where she also hosted international students. Her poems are published in River & South Journal, Manhattan Linear, and Metropolitan Review, as well as in her self-published chapbooks, available at Sister's Uptown Bookstore and Cultural Center in Harlem, NY, and on this website. She exhibited a mixed-media sculpture in Longwood Art Gallery’s 25 Year Contemporary show. Sally is often found at poetry readings and slams but sometimes also performing her poems in Oz Comes to Harlem.
